New in EarthRanger: Conditional logic and a new Ecoscope workflow

From conditional form logic to deeper Ecoscope analytics, new updates are making it easier for conservation teams to capture and act on critical information.

New Feature: Conditional Fields now support "Show/Hide" logic based on specific inputs, such as species type, to streamline field reporting workflows.

EarthRanger continues to evolve alongside the people using it on the ground. Three recent updates, conditional logic in Event Forms, a new event-focused workflow in Ecoscope, and improved Global Forest Watch alerts.

Conditional logic in Event Forms

Conditional logic is now available in the EarthRanger Event Form Editor. This update reflects a long-standing request from users who manage complex forms in the field.

Conditional logic allows entire sections of a form to appear or remain hidden based on inputs earlier in the form. This helps guide field personnel through reporting in a more intentional way, ensuring that the right questions are asked at the right time based on what is being observed.

For example, selecting “rhino” in a wildlife observation can trigger additional sections asking about behavior, condition, or individual ID, while those sections remain hidden for other species.

Conditional logic helps ensure that more detailed and relevant information is captured when it matters most. This supports more consistent reporting across teams and improves the quality of data used for downstream analysis and decision-making.

The initial release supports conditions such as whether a field has input, does not have input, or matches a specific value. Logic applies at the section level to maintain a clear and predictable form structure. Additional condition types are planned, and user feedback will help guide future updates.

The new Ecoscope workflow helps you track and map specific totals—like herd sizes or snare counts—to see exactly how they change across your landscape.

A new Event details-focused workflow in Ecoscope

Ecoscope now includes a new Event Details – Numeric Field Workflow. This workflow lets the user deep dive into Events by being able to analyse numeric value fields.

In addition to standard event counts, the workflow analyzes numeric fields within a single event type, such as herd size, group size, or the number of snares reported. Users select an event type and a numeric field, and Ecoscope generates a dashboard that summarizes totals, distributions, and spatial patterns tied to those values.

This workflow allows conservationists to look beyond event locations to better understand how reported quantities and categories are distributed across the landscape and how those patterns change over time.

Improvements to the Global Forest Watch integration ensure fire and deforestation alerts arrive reliably in EarthRanger, allowing teams to respond to forest changes faster.

Improved reliability for Global Forest Watch alerts

EarthRanger users who rely on fire and forest loss alerts from Global Forest Watch should now see more consistent and timely updates.

Recent improvements to the Global Forest Watch integration focused on how alerts are processed and delivered into EarthRanger and SMART Connect as use has grown over time. The result is a more reliable flow of alerts across configured areas.

For teams monitoring fire activity and forest change, this means greater confidence that alerts will arrive when expected and can be reviewed and acted on as part of day-to-day operations.

More detail on these updates, including configuration guidance and examples, is available in the EarthRanger Help Center.
